We started getting hungry, and we wanted to find a Middle Eastern restaurant for dinner. We found all sorts of places, like steakhouses, British, and the obligatory American chains. Finally, we walked across the lagoon bridge to the Souk Al Bahar, and we found Abdel Wahab restaurant. The host disappointed us when he said they were fully booked for the evening, but then he offered a table in the smoking section. We took it! Fortunately, no one was smoking nasty cigarettes, but Sean was happy to have an Apple shisha with his dinner!
We ordered appetizers to start: Lebanese fried cheese (YUM!), hummus with lamb and pine nuts, and drinks. The olives and almonds (raw almonds soaked in ice water) were complimentary.
Dinner was, of course, lamb cutlets for Sean, and chicken shish tawook for me. Both were delicious!
When it came time for dessert, we had to try the baklava. They make it with pistachios here, instead of with walnuts like at home. It was SO good! Sean had a cappuccino and I had mint tea. Our waiter then surprised us with a complimentary milk pudding with chopped pistachios on top. Oh wow! We had never had this before and it was delicious!
After dinner, we started the long walk back to the Metro station. We managed to catch a show of the Dubai Fountain. I couldn't do justice to it with a video on my phone, but if you have seen the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas, this is 3 times larger!
It was by nice, and a great way to end our first day in Dubai!
Sounds like an amazing first day! Glad you are having such a great time!
ReplyDeleteBTW.. totally jealous about all the food you are getting to eat! Especially the Baklava.. pistachios make such a difference!
