This morning, we left the Alyeska Resort and headed south towards Seward. We will board our cruise ship this afternoon! Our first stop today was the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. They are a wildlife rehabilitation center. We finally got to see a bear! The Grizzly bears they have were found injured and are now permanent residents.
We also got to see Alaska Wood Bison. They were long thought to be extinct until a small herd was found in a remote part of western Canada. The AWCC has bred them and increased their numbers, and they now have a herd living in the wild. They are slightly larger than a Plains Bison.
We also saw a Musk Ox, which is actually a large goat, not an ox.
After this, we continued south to Seward. As we entered town, we saw our first view of Radiance of the Seas!
Our next stop was the Alaska SeaLife Center, which is also a rehab facility as well as an aquarium. They had lots of seals and sea lions.
They also have several touch tanks with urchins, starfish and anemones. I had no idea that anemones were sticky!
Sean and I enjoyed seeing tanks full of the the fish we enjoy eating: salmon (several types), cod, flounder, rockfish, and king crabs!
They also had a bird area. I got a kick out of this Puffin that has hair like Trump!
(And yes, Trump was in Anchorage today. Thankfully his visit did not interfere with ours!) After a quick lunch at a little restaurant near the SeaLife Center, it was back on the bus for one last trip to the pier!
Our tour director already checked in our luggage so we just showed our passports, breezed through security, and boarded the ship! We have a balcony cabin this time. 😀
Our luggage was conveniently waiting in the hall outside our cabin. After moving hotels every night for 5 days, it was really nice to finally be able to unpack!
We walked all around the ship to get familiar with it, and I stopped at Guest Services to apply our gift cards to our account. (Thanks Mom and Dad!) I got a kick out of this sign!
Radiance is one of the smallest Royal Caribbean ships, but it is really neat. It has everything we need, and it really is nice!
Dinner was a little crazy. There was a LONG line for the dining room, and I made reservations on the app months ago. Sean made eye contact with the Head Waiter, and he not only let us skip the line, but also assigned us a table right by the window for the week!
We had a nice dinner, then headed up to the top deck to watch the sail away!
Off we go!!
